Should we get rid of extra points?

Posted on Updated on

Do we really want extra points in football?

It seems that they are nothing but trouble – very stressful in critical times.

When they are made, it’s no big deal.

When they are missed at a critical time, they can put an end to an exciting game.

Picture a game winning touchdown drive to potentially tie the game.

Extra point is missed – game over.

DO WE WANT A GAME TO END LIKE THAT?

Increasing the distance of the extra point does not help.

Extra points don’t even have their own name – like Touchdown, Field goal, Safety – just called Extra point.

So how about if we get rid of them altogether – we’ll just have to decide if a touchdown is 6 or 7 points.

I think we will all enjoy football more without them.

Let’s play outside

Football games played in rain, snow, cold, mud are more fun to watch than indoor games.

Indoor stadiums have the same conditions – perfect weather, perfect field conditions – BORING!

With all the preparations teams do, it’s nice to have a part of the game that is unknown and cannot be totally prepared for.

How about an Extreme rule change:

Allow teams to customize their fields – add dirt ( water?) to the middle of the field – maybe between the 40s.
